Word Origin

The word 'we' originates from Old English 'wē'. This, in turn, developed from the Proto-Germanic form '*wīz', which ultimately traces back to the Proto-Indo-European (PIE) root '*we-' or '*wei-', meaning 'we'.

Words with a similar origin include German 'wir', Dutch 'wij', Swedish 'vi', Danish 'vi', Norwegian 'vi', and Gothic 'weis', all stemming from the same Proto-Germanic root.
